How ARCS Expertise Can Elevate Your Research - with Q&A Online

Join us for a 45‑minute workshop featuring an introduction to the Academic Research Consulting & Services (ARCS) team with *fast* lightning talks and an engaging Q&A on partnership opportunities.  The UF Libraries ARCS department is dedicated to strengthening research competitiveness at the University. ARCS provides expertise as consultants and grant partners in areas related to Natural Language Processing (NLP), data analysis and visualization, systematic reviews, data management, public access compliance and copyright, scholarly publishing and open access, and research metrics and impact.

Lauren Adkins, Systematic Reviews Librarian. Lauren will discuss how librarians support systematic reviews by designing comprehensive and reproducible search strategies that capture relevant literature. She will also highlight how these experts guide researchers in managing records, documenting methodologies, and ensuring adherence to established quality standards throughout the review process.

Joe Aufmuth, GIS Librarian. Joe will present on the integration of ARCS into WEC’s major ecological restoration project, known as the Lone Cabbage Oyster Reef Restoration Project, and a collaboration with Veterinary Medicine’s Dr. John Bowden and his lab’s graduate students on spatial analysis and visualization of forever chemical (PFAS) sampling data.

Borui Zhang, Natural Language Processing (NLP) Specialist. Borui will discuss how she collaborates with researchers to apply NLP and AI methods to research data. She will highlight partnerships involving text mining and large language model (LLM) workflows for analyzing literature and digital collections, supporting projects from early research design through grant development and implementation.

Perry Collins, Copyright & Scholarly Communications Librarian. Perry will discuss how she supports researchers by advising on copyright compliance, fair use practices, and licensing considerations.

Curtis Maughan, Digital Scholarship Librarian and Director of the AI Civilization Lab. Curtis will share his collaboration with a history professor on integrating digital simulations and AI historical figures into an existing course about statecraft and strategy. The digital/AI components will be co-developed with the professor and a part-time student digital artist.

Tara Cataldo, Research Metrics Librarian. Tara will share how our dedicated support team provides tailored guidance and training, ensuring that researchers can effectively navigate, analyze, and apply metrics.
