Join us to hear about Land Conservation efforts in Alachua County!

Description:
Alachua County Forever: Where Earth Day is Every Day

Andi Christman will give an overview of land conservation and protection efforts in Alachua County, focused on the Alachua County Forever Program, funded by the Wild Spaces and Public Places surtax.

The citizen-supported Alachua County Forever program works to protect water quality, and wildlife habitat by purchasing and protecting lands within the county.  From the program inception in 2000, Alachua County Forever has protected over 33,000 acres of environmentally significant lands, and is part of what makes Alachua County such a special place to live, work and play.  In the November 2022 general election, voters passed the third round of Wild Spaces and Public Places funding, which is generated by a ½ cent sales tax on purchases within the county through December of 2032.  Funds from the Wild Spaces and Public Places surtax support protection of environmentally significant lands within the County and also fund improvements to active recreational parks and facilities.

Andi Christman, Manager, Alachua County Land Conservation and Management Program

Andi Christman has worked for Alachua County since 2018, and currently manages the Alachua County Forever program.  In this role, she leads the conservation land acquisition program within the County, and the stewardship of 21 County preserves.  Andi has worked in management of public conservation lands in Florida since 1995, including time with the Florida Forest Service as the Ecologist at the Withlacoochee State Forest, the Invasive Plant Specialist in the Forest Health Office, and for the Florida Park Service as the Biologist at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.
