Creating Our Critical Information Literacy Stories Through Practice Online
Talk description: There is power in narrative. The stories we create, share, and choose to believe both shape and are shaped by our experience in the world. As teaching librarians, we find ourselves working within the narrative structures created by our institutions, professional organizations, and society. But what could our teaching look like if we questioned dominant narratives of information literacy, education, and academic librarianship? What kind of opportunities might emerge? Critical inquiry and reflection are key to developing counter narratives that help build community, enhance learning, and make our teaching practice more meaningful. Through today’s discussion and webinar, we will examine assumptions we bring to our instructional activities (about ourselves, students, and information literacy), reflect on their impact, and work toward crafting our own stories.
