Employee Learning Tour of Public Art: Getting to Know the Smathers Libraries In-Person
Join Lourdes Santamaría-Wheeler for this unique employee learning opportunity to explore public art in the Smathers Library and Library West. The tour will highlight “History of Learning in Florida” by Hollis Holbrook (Smathers Library Grand Reading Room), “UF 144: Circuits, Signs and Place” by Richard Heipp (Library West), “Three Way Piece No. 2” by Henry Moore (Library West), and “Blue Ridge” by Hiram Williams (Library West).
Put on your walking shoes and get to know more about our library system.
- Limited to 15 Library employees.
- Location: Begin in the Grand Reading Room of the Smathers Library and continue the tour by walking over to Library West.
- Transportation: A library van or golf cart can be requested for transportation to and from the event.

Presenter: Lourdes Santamaría-Wheeler is a first generation Cuban-American working at the intersection of Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums. She is currently the Exhibits Director at the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries and Adjunct Assistant Professor in Museum Studies. She established and oversees a comprehensive exhibition program that includes physical and digital exhibitions that enhance research and learning opportunities at the University. She specializes in exhibition program development and leadership that emphasizes curatorial and interpretive training centering inclusion and equity, inclusive practices in cultural heritage spaces, digital scholarship, and student mentorship, particularly for those who have been minoritized in higher education. Lourdes holds a BFA in Creative Photography and MA in Museology.
