Introduction to Mold and Pests in Library Collections Online
Join us for an essential training on mold and pest management specifically tailored to our libraries. The session will cover:
- The most common mold and pest problems found in libraries
- How to prioritize your health and safety during an outbreak
- Effective prevention strategies to reduce the risk of outbreaks
- Steps to take if you encounter a mold or pest infestation in your work environment
- Assisting in remediation efforts
Bring your questions so we can address any queries or concerns you have.
All staff, faculty, OPS, and student employees are strongly encouraged to attend.
Supervisors and managers will receive updated information on their roles in the Libraries mold and pest management efforts.
Presenter: Katie Smith is the conservator and interim preservation librarian at the University of Florida. She not only conserves the special collections here, but also manages the lab and staff that handle the repairs for all the libraries on campus. Katie has a degree in bookbinding as well as a few degrees in conservation along with degrees in the humanities, comparative literature, and the arts. She has worked in private and public conservation labs throughout her career, which included training positions where she taught staff preservation techniques. She moved here six years ago as conservator. While her specialty is books, she has experience with textile, object, and photo conservation as well.
