Presented by the ARCS Research Metrics and Impact team, this session will introduce metrics commonly used to measure research impact and lead a discussion on how librarians can incorporate metrics into their annual activity reports, CVs, promotion packets, grant applications and award nominations. It will include item-level (article, book, etc.), author-level, and journal-level metrics. Our panel will discuss where to find these metrics, how they are used, and best practices for putting the numbers into context. The ACRL Framework for Impactful Scholarship and Metrics will be introduced as a guide for using research metrics in our work as librarians.   

This session is intended for faculty wishing to use metrics in their annual activity reports, CVs, and promotion packets.   

After this session, participants will be able to:  

1. Describe how metrics are used to assess research impact  
2. Identify sources for commonly used metrics for item-level, author-level, and journal-level impact assessment   
3. Appraise the appropriate contextual use of research metrics
