Trans* Collections Project: Assessing and Building Diverse Collections

In this webinar, members of the Collections Subcommittee from Louisiana State University Libraries’ Diversity Committee will share their project to assess and build diverse collections. To pilot the initiative, the team chose to work on a lesser-developed area of the collection: materials by and about transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender-nonconforming people. This multi-phase project used established bibliographies and faculty surveys to identify gaps in the collection and create a resource to make new and existing materials more discoverable. Through this project, LSU Libraries was able to identify and acquire more than 100 new titles and provide greater access to materials. Attendees will learn how to conduct similar assessments at their own libraries to grow their diverse collections and make them more accessible.

Panel: The Collections Task Force is a subcommittee of Louisiana State University Libraries’ Diversity Committee. Its members are charged with exploring diversity and inclusion efforts as they relate to the collecting practices and collection description of collections at the Libraries and assembling suggestions and recommendations based on examples from other institutions.
